Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) joined the global initiative for peace by hosting a ceremony for the International Day of Peace 2024 under the theme "Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals" on September 20, 2024, at the Office of the President building, RMUTL Chiang Mai campus.

Associate Professor Dr. Theerasak Urajananon, Vice President for University Council Affairs, along with Ajarn Aksajja Duangsupasin, Vice President for Student Affairs and Alumni Relations, and Petty Officer First Class Amnaj Jaikamfu, Director of Student Development Division, led faculty members, staff, and students in the ceremony.

The event's highlights included the reading of the United Nations Secretary-General's message in both Thai and English, a message from the President of the Universal Peace Federation Foundation, and a one-minute silent prayer for peace.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Theerasak stated, "This event aims to raise awareness about the importance of peace and to collaboratively create a peaceful society, starting from the individual level, through families and communities, up to national and global levels. This aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 16, which promotes peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development."

Ajarn Aksajja added, "We hope this activity will be a starting point for creating positive energy and encouraging everyone to participate in promoting sustainable peace, which is a crucial foundation for achieving all 17 Sustainable Development Goals."

The International Day of Peace originated from a United Nations General Assembly resolution in 1981, initially designating the first Tuesday of September as the International Day of Peace. In 2001, it was changed to September 21st annually, establishing a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, as well as raising awareness and promoting peace among people and nations worldwide.

RMUTL's International Day of Peace activities align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

1. Goal 4: Quality Education - Through raising awareness and educating students and staff about peace
2. Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions - By promoting peace and justice in society
3. Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals - Through collaborations between educational institutions, communities, and various organizations in promoting peace

RMUTL invites all sectors to join in creating a peaceful society for sustainable development and the well-being of humanity, in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
